A story of a graduate

MBF partner nursing school FSIL, put on the annual graduation ceremony with much pride last November and Charledine Escarment (MBF Scholarship Recipient) was honored as Valedictorian. Charledine comes from Saint-Louis-du-North in the northwest region of Haiti. Her father (a farmer) and mother (a seamstress) had five children to keep them very busy.

In her words, "learning the nursing profession was my dream." She never believed that she would be "admitted to such a prestigious nursing school", not to mention "one of the best in Haiti". All she could think when a friend told her about FSIL was "who am I?" Through the rest of her speech she defines who she is, and how thankful she is to be able to do what she loves doing in the nursing field.

She attributes her success to God, her hard working parents, FSIL Staff who gave her the scholarship and MBF. Patrick Coughlin, MBF Vice President of Partner Engagement East was able to congratulate the graduates as well as MBF board member, Bob Sloane (both pictured in the gallery with Charledine below).

Charledine proclaimed that, "as long as humanity exists, we will need nursing care, compassion and understanding. Nurses face pain with perseverance and they bring peace to the unfortunate. That is the reason why nurses are the cornerstone of the health care system." She ended her inspiring speech by noting that, "physicians take care of the diseases; however, nurses take care of the patient. She is advocate, researcher, educator, caregiver and friend."

Well spoken words for someone who has a very bright future ahead of her. There are many promising young minds with the same love for nursing that might have missed their chance to better their lives and serve their communities with the same passion that Charledine has, if it were not for people like you.  We thank you for seeing the importance of equipping the next generation of nurses.

As MBF CEO, Andy Mayo said, "It’s not every day that we get to very clearly see the truly great outcomes of our ministry."

With your help others like Charledine will also be able to see dreams come to reality through hard work and a hand up from you. Give a gift today. Charledine is one of many successful stories of how you have changed the course of someone's life by partnering with us. Lets change lives. Lets make medical missions work.

with us.

Got any last minute Christmas shopping to do? Let MBF help. It is not too late! Send someone you love a gift that lasts.

Instead of putting another "unwanted" sweater in someone's hands, what if you were able to send a young girl to nursing school, helping her provide for her family and save lives in her community?

Honor someone special out of gratitude for what God has done in your own life, or in memory and we will send your recipient a card notifying them of how they showed God’s love to another in great need.

Our 2018 Alternative Giving Catalog is ready for the Christmas season. Click the picture to make a difference with your Christmas list.

hint, Hint

Every month we will be asking for participation on our social media platforms for some fun giveaways you will not want to miss. There may be questions to answer, and paying attention to this tidbit certainly would not hurt for the month of December.

Did you know that in Haiti children are encouraged to fill new or clean shoes with straw and keep them on the porch. It is expected that Santa Claus (Papa Noel) will come visiting on Christmas Eve, remove the straw and fill the shoes with gifts.

Be on the lookout for our giveaways on Facebook and Instagram! Coming soon!
